Extraordinary size and flavor - Niitaka
Arao is known for being one of the largest producers of nashi pears. The main variety grown in Arao is called Niitaka, which is also known as the Arao Jumbo nashi pear. Niitaka nashi pears are currently grown by approximately 150 producers. Annual production is up to as much as 2,000 tonnes. The largest of the fruit grow as big as 15 cm in diameter, and the variety is highly popular not only for its round, golden appearance but also for its sweetness and juiciness.
Of the many nashi pear orchards, one has a Chinese pear tree (Ya Pear) that is over 100 years old. The girth of this huge tree measures two meters and is known not only for its delicious fruit but also as a power spot where you can receive energy from the ancient tree.
Enjoy eating the fruit under the nashi pear tree canopy.
Arao nashi pear picking allows you to enjoy freshly picked nashi pears. Varieties available for picking include Niitaka, Kosui, Hosui, and Akizuki.
